Tenser, Sore Feeling Mole On Back. Do I Need Immediate Medical Attention?

I am a 27 year old caucasian female in good health. I have a mole on my back that seems to be the same shape, size etc but today the area around it is tender to the touch and so is the mole. It is maybe 2 cm in diameter, raised and mostly uniform in color. I have quite a few other moles on my body. Is this tenderness, or sore feeling cause for immediate medical attention? I don t have medical insurance so I don t want to rush to pay a lot of money if I m overreacting and this kind of thing happens sometimes for a reason thats not cancer . Thank you!

Dear Ma'am,

Sorry to hear about your problem. Pain in a pre-existing mole is one of the danger signals for a malignant melanoma and you should get this evaluated by a surgeon immediately. It might just be a simple infection, which can be treated by antibiotics but if it looks suspicious, a biopsy would be required.

Hoping for the best.
