Terrible Fear Of Flying, Given Ativan. When Will It Be Out Of System ?

I have a terrible fear of flying ( age 5 my brothers put me in an old refrigerator that was stored in the barn, I passed out, my Mom found me) I panic at the thought of getting on a plane but want to see my daughter and granddaughter in Oakland which is a five hour trip. I have driven the past two years. I have discussed this with my Doctor and he gave me Ativan. I need to drive from the airport SFO to my daughter after the flight. They have jobs and will be at work. I would like to sleep for the flight. When should I take the first pill. Will five hours be enough time for the drug to leave my system so I can drive?

Ativan (lorazepam) should not be taken when you drive.
It has a half life of about 10 to 16 hours. It stays in the system for a little longer than that. I would not recommend driving after the flight (during which you will be taking lorazepam). You are located in the US and the driving speeds are extremely high and even a small delay in reaction time can be dangerous.
