Till Which Time Period Can Someone Expect A Rabies Attack?
Hi there,
Firstly, I feel bad for your last name given your profession. Secondly, my friend has been bitten by a dog here in cambodia on his foot. he has not had his rabies vaccines. The dog is semi-stray and has marks etc, although a friend of ours was bitten a month ago and doesnt seem to have contracted the virus. He was bitten last night, approximately 12 hours ago. The wound was cleaned with iodine last night and again cleaned this today.
What is his best point of attack? He went to the local hospital and the wouldn't give him the shot since he didnt have his passport and he apparently has missed the window for the first shot.
The firs shot should be given as early as possible. Missing it by a few hours will not make a very big difference. The most important thing is to make sure that he gets his immunoglobulins and the vaccination. This would help prevent any eventual rabies infection if at all the dog has the virus.
Hope this helps. Wish hi well. feel free to ask for more questions if need be. Thanks. Dr. Ditah, MD
