Tinnitus From Left Ear To Head. How Can I Get Rid Of It Permanently?

Hi. I have had tinnitus since July. First it started in my left ear and now I feel it is in the head. When I wake up the noise is not there. Then it gradually builds itself up in a few minutes. How can I get rid of it permanently? When I've woken up I've tried telling myself that the noise is not there but it still creeps up and goes on til I wake up the next morning then the same process starts all over again. I'm sceptical about the whole retraining the brain thing as that is what I do first thing when I wake up.
