Took TSH Test. Showed 4.65 Antibodies. On Thyroxine Sodium. Correct Dosage?
Hi, my TSH test one month back, showed 4.65 with antibodies within range.....I was put on thyroxine sodium 50mcg tablet daily...Today my GP has reduced the dosage to 25 mcg daily as he found my pulse rate higher (110 beats per minute)...Is the dosage correct for me or will it have any side effects for reducing the dosage....my next thyroid test is due in mid june 2013..
Hi, Welcome to HCM, After going through your history, You had subclinical hypothyroidism that is why supplementation of Thyroxine was started. We need to monitor the symptoms and sign of overdose, your doctor is correct in reducing the dose if you are having fast pulse rate but remember there can be other causes of fast pulse rate like exercise, stress, and fever they must be ruled out. It is better to record sleeping pulse rate in such patient to know real pulse rate. It is already june and your Thyroid function test will guide for dose of Thyroxine. If your TSH is high dose can be increased by your Physician. Take care. Good Luck. Dr.Akhilesh Dubey M.D.
