Took Marvelon For Years, Missed Periods, Ovary, Nipples Tender, Back Pain. Reason For Above Symptoms?

Hello. My name is Adrienne. I am 44 years old, have never been pregnant - and took birth control pills (Marvelon) for a little over 10 years straight.

I've not had a period now since April or May and prior to that I was having a full period every 2 to 3 weeks. Lately I've found what I believe to be my left ovary is tender to touch - a constant feeling. I am also experiencing lower back pain - which is not unusual for me. Oddly, while I am hungry - I also feel full. I've had a few 'episodes' of tender erect nipples as well.

Can you tell me - should I be concerned by any of this?

Hello ma'am.

First of all, it is protocol to check the pregnancy status of all women who were previously experiencing a period and have not experienced it for a while now, along with the symptoms of pregnancy.

Once pregnancy is ruled out, we could either consider your symptoms to be due to discontinuation of contraception or a hormonal imbalance. Checking for infections would be the last on the list.

I would recommend a urine examination, vaginal swab test, blood test to check all hormone levels and a transvaginal ultrasound scan to rule out/diagnose anatomical abnormalities and relate them to a condition.
