Treated With Antibiotics, Steroids. Still Having Phlegm, Dry Mouth, Cracky Voice. Suggestions?
Hello, I have had a hacking cough since Christmas, this has been treated with anti biotics and then steroids, I have sabutamol pump for use when/if I choke with the plegm, this has greatly receded now with the use of an old-fashioned remedy called amonia + ipec. I still have a problem with plegm in my throat, a dry mouth and a craoky voice, no sore throat . Is there anything you can recommend to clear the plegm from my throat. I have had two chest xrays.
since your chest x-rays were normal and also since you have already taken course of anti-biotics it is unlikely that you have infection. In all probability you may be suffering from GERD and reflux. You need to go for an ENT consult and also impress upon him to perform an UPPER GI ENDOSCOPY You should also avoid any spicy, oily or cold food Take proper meal and at proper time Don't strain your voice
Since you have already undergone a course of anti biotics and also have clear chest X-rays you are unlikely to have any infection as a cause of your cough. In most of the cases the cough is due to the relux and GERD. You need also to have good vocal use. Try the following: 1. Avoid oily, spicy and cold food and drink 2. Avoid lying down immediately after having a meal 3. Try VOCAL HYGIENE; these are a set of things which are helpful in keeping your voice under less strain. 4. Get an upper GI endoscopy done and start an anti reflux treatment as soon as possible
get well soon and drink lots of warm water every time your throat feels dry without clearing it on and on
