Treatment For Bacterial And Viral Infection In Eyes With Sore Throat And Lump In Jaw

Hi two days ago I developed red eyes, really inflamed, and really weepy with yellow and green mucus. I went to the optometrist and he said I had a bacterial infection and to take chlorphenical (sp?) drops which I've been doing. Overnight it got worse so went to the A&E where I was told I had a viral infection as well as a bacterial infection. They asked if my jaws were sore but at the time I had no other symptoms beyond my eyes. However, last night I developed a sore throat and ttonight I just noticed a really sore lump in my jaw on both sides of my face, slightly worse on my left side which is the eye that was sore first. They took a swab but it may be several days to get the results. Should I go back to the doctor and tell them about these sore lumps in my jaw?

Hello
It seems from the history that you are having red eyes with sore throat probably of infectious etiology.
The treatment is by antibiotics, though the antibiotics treatment has to be started depending on the culture and sensitivity report but in clinical practice broad spectrum antibiotics are started and they can be altered later depending on the culture and sensitivity report.
The treatment in your case is by use of antibiotics and decongestant drugs. The red eyes require treatment by antibiotic eye drops.
Hence I advice you to consult your doctor for examination and treatment accordingly.

Thank you
