I have been taking predisone for over 40 years; I have now developed cataracts and am on the waiting list for surgery. My GP now thinks I may have diabetes as a result of the predisone - if this is the case, what treatment should I have to consider. I am not overweight.
Predisone is a steroid and its long term use causes side effects like Diabetes. Secondly high dose steroids will interfere with blood glucose and cause poor glycemic control. In my opinion first confirm diabetes with relevant blood tests Fast and Post postprandial blood sugars and HbA1c. If the blood sugars are very high taper the dose of Perdisone.
