Hello! Unprotected vaginal intercourse without
contraception, with or without ejaculation, anytime of the menstrual cycle may result in pregnancy in a woman having normal periods. iPill or a commercially available OCP (Oral
Contraceptive Pill consisting of oestrogen and
progesterone) is effective if taken within 72 hours of the act. Any abnormal bleeding suggests withdrawal bleeding due to drop in progesterone levels.
A commercially available do-it-yourself pregnancy detection kit is available under Rs 50 from the local chemist - it detects hCG (human chorionic gonadotrophin) in urine but it is positive only after 14 days after
IMPLANTATION of the fertilized OVUM to the uterine lining; which in your case is after 24th.
If pregnancy test is indeed positive and a USG (
ultrasonography) shows
gestational sac, a procedure called ‘D &C ‘(Dilatation & Curettage) of the uterine lining may be performed by a gynaecologist in the OPD (Out Patient Department) for MTP (Medical Termination of Pregnancy).
Oral abortifacients –A course of tablet Mifepristone 600 mg followed 2 days later with tablet
Misoprostol 400 mcg (cost Rs 600 approx) have 10% failure rate below 49 days of gestation; a persistent gestational sac in USG after 14 days of taking the course will require D & C .
