Vaginal Bleeding After 5 Days Of Taking Pill. Negative Pregnancy Tests. Any Ideas?

Me and my girlfriend had sex last week on 6th sep. her periods were on 26th august. We used a condom and i ejaculated in the condom itself but there were spots near her vagina. For safety she took an unwanted 72 pill. she felt nausea or vomitting sensation right after taking the pill and later went fine. After 5 days i,e from this friday, she started having vaginal bleeding whch is reddish brown in color. its bleeding her heavily from last three days and we are worried. she also took a home pregancy test and found out to be negative. What are the causes for this vaginal bleeding whch is heavily flowing? how can it be treated? til when will this continue ? her periods are now expected on 25-26th of sep. Will they be on time? Is she pregnant?

Hello,

In this context, chance of pregnancy is extremely low or nil as you did protected sex with condom on relatively safe period and additionally she took unwanted 72 pill. So, you have nothing to worry.

Vaginal bleeding occurs due to withdrawal effect of the pill. It is quite common and normal thing. It will be stopped within 3-5 days and no treatment is required.

However, next cycle may be delayed for 1-2 weeks due to hormonal imbalance and mental stress. It is wise to undergo one home pregnancy test if her period is delayed more than 1 week. Early test is less significant. Good luck.

Hello dear,

Emergency contraceptive pills like Unwanted 72 have a high hormonal content.
When taken, they cause hormonal imbalance in the body...which can explain the heavy bleeding.

However, other than hormonal imbalance(as already explained) it can also be due to many other causes like stress, any infection or pathology in the uterus, ovary, etc.
So, kindly consult a Gynecologist & get a proper clinical examination done.

Investigations like complete blood count, Ultrasound scan of abdomen and pelvis will be helpful to rule out any pathological cause for her symptoms.

Wishing her a good health.
Take care.
