Vein In Wrist Swollen, Painful, Wrist Brace

The vein below my right thumb over my wrist is swollen. My right wrist feels painful. The pain is exacerbated with movement, use of thumb to do pretty much anything - hold a pencil, turn a knob, lift anything. This pain started two days ago and got worse with use. So, today I started wearing a wrist/thumb brace to remind myself not to use it. It helped. But when I took it off this evening to wash my hands I noticed the swelling of the vein I mentioned, plus a little swelling below and to the right of that area. Also, while the brace was off I pulled on some velcro with my right hand/thumb and now theain has extended to my elbow . Any thoughts? Recommendations?

It seems to be thrombophlebitis. You need to do the following
1. elevation with elastocrepe bandage of the affected extremity.
2. antibiotics if you are febrile
3. pain killers
3.thrombophobe ointment for local application
4. iced compresses locally.
If it does'nt settle with this treatment then a surgical consult is mandatory.
