Vein On Neck Pulsating, Swelling At Rest. Stents In Coronary Arteries. History Of Heart Attack. Causes For Pulsating Vein?
Hello there, I d like to know if it means something wrong when someones vein or artery at their right side of the neck (near to the collarobe) is pulsing visibly and swelly in resting position. /Its my father he had heart attack 6 months ago, and has a stent in his coronary artery./ What can cause this? I ve never seen a blood vessel like this visible on him before. Thanks for the answer!!
Blood vessels in the neck especially veins are associated closely with heart. Any changes in the heart are transmitted down to these blood vessels.
With the back ground of recent myocardial infarction it is important to know about his current heart functions. Ejection fraction above 50% is an indication of normal functioning heart. If this is below 50% (as seen on 2D echocardiography) high fluid / water intake can lead to worsening of heart failure and one can find visible neck veins.
I wonder if what your father has is the same. Verify if he has breathing problems too. If yes, then it warrants an immediate medical attention.
If he is asymptomatic, then I suggest you to report back to your cardiologist who after careful examination will assess his external jugular vein pressure (Central venous pressure - CVP) and repeat 2D echocardiogram. This will give us a clear understanding about his dilated vessels.
Hope this helps.
Regards
