Vomiting, Cellulitis, Loose Stools, Diabetes. What Is Causing Diarrhea?
My Dad (82) was in hospital for 8 days last week, could not keep food down and vomiting - this was post 6 weeks of antibiotics for cellulitis (after a bad fall when he was infected). Very weak and dehydrated. Post ibntravenous feeding etc he is now eating well, staying awake more, but every time he urinates, his passes watery stool. Also have haemorrhoids that now seem to be inflamed. They gave him medicine to stimulate his appetite as to eat better and gain strength He has only been recently (5 months ago) been diagnosed with early Diabetes (1), but also last week changed the diabetes medication. What can cause this passing stool continously? Thanking you in Anticipation Regards DeVilliers
Hello, Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum. Since due to old age intestinal flora ( bacteria diminishes ) and antibiotics also increases movements of intestine . When motility of intestine increases than these develops diarrhea , same thing happened with your father. In type 1 diabetes usually insulin prescribes. In type 2 oral drugs are uses, so new medication may be the cause of diarrhea. Sugar free appetizer will boost the appetite. If there is any requirement of antibiotics , please choose only intravenous rout. Hope your father will improve soon. Good luck. Dr. HET
