Hi, I spent too much time in the sun yesterday wearing a factor 15 cream instead of my usual factor 50. Throughout the night and morning I experienced a very painful deep ache in the burnt arm , it was also swollen. I took paracetamol , ibroprufen and piriton as well as drinking plenty.mthe pain has now returned this evening. What tshould I be doing to help my sunburn and how long should I avoid the sun for, I am on my holidays :(

Sun burns generally take 3 to 5 days to heal and some times more in certain skin types e.g very fair, white skin type 1 and 2.
As it is superficial burn hence it is very painful and sensitive and itchy.
The medications you are taking to relieve pain are ok but also apply olive oil over affected areas for few days even after healing. Use any good moisturing cream at least three to four times to prevent dryness and itching other scratching in the recently healed skin will damage the area further and can even cause scarring.
Use SPF 35 and above or your regular SPF50. After healing of the present attack of burn you skin is more vulnurable to sun damage in next abiut three months.
