Weight Gain And Hypertension. Taking Crestor For Cholesterol. Family History Of Diabetes. Any Suggestions?
my family doctor jusr prescribed auroramipril, because i had blood pressure of 140/90. i am going through alot of very stressful situations and i have also gain at least 15 pounds in the last year... i also take crestor for cholestorol(border line )... i really do not want to take medication and find otherways of controlling these two issues, but he insisits that i take these medicines , however i do have a family history, father uncles ..etc of diabeties , cholosttorol, all started around the age of 60 , i am presently 57.. what can you advise , my objective is not to say that my family doctor is wrong or to criticize him , but to have an alternate view

High blood pressure can be associated with complications if not controlled. The present guidelines are based on research that showed that beginning at a blood pressure of 115/75 the risk of heart disease and stroke doubles for every increase of 20/10 mmHg.
The use of medication is associated with a decrease in stroke of 40%, heart attacks 25% and heart failure by 50%.
If you can decrease your blood pressure through lifestyle measures to less than 130/ 80 preferably then it would be ok but this may be difficult and it may be best to use the medication given to reduce the risk of problems especially with a history of high cholesterol.
