Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Are 800,000 Platelet Count And Hbg Of 7.9 Suggestive Of?
I had blood work done and it came back 800,000 Platelets and Hbg 7.9. My doctor made me a appt to follow up with a oncologist and to take iron supplement. However, another physician whom I work with said taking supplements prior to my appt with the oncologist may mask the current problems. I have always been healthy, take no meds other than a Prilosec and Excedrin once in a great while. No diagnosed medical problems at all. My question is, should I take the iron pill and do you think these 2 labs suggest Cancer??
As a physician I would like to tell you that you can start taking iron supplementation before going to Oncologist because your Hb is low. you can tell him about his in the appointment that you have started taking pills and he can adjust his medical opinion accordingly. Also, for the second question, it is really a job of oncologist to examine you clinically and after taking into consideration your medical records, he can come to a diagnosis or ruling out of cancer.
Hope this will help you. Feel free to ask any further question. Have a nice day.
Regards, Dr. Abhijeet
