What Are Finger Like Appendages In The Knee Called As?

When i got my knee scoped about 7 years ago, the dr that went in found finger like appendages in my knee. He said that it will not go away that it will constantly have to be shaved off. What is the medical term for it and was my dr correct that they will have to go back in every 5-10 years?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

The term you are looking for may be “osteophytes”. It is finger like bony projection that develops on a background of arthritis.

Consult an orthopedic for detailed evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
General & Family Physician
