What Are Persistent Low Grade Fever, Painful Body, Nausea And Fatigue Suggestive Of?

My husband age 543,has been home from work for 6 days now with low grade fever, body aches, headache and nausea and fatigue. We now notice a small rash on the left side of his abdomen. Should we figure it is just a flu, or should he see a doctor? My 6 yr old daughter vomited one night last week so we thought my husband must have a stomach flu, but this has lasted a long time and no one else in the house has been ill.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It is likely a viral illness since viral infections are the most common type of infection.

If there is no vomiting or diarrhea then the infection may not be related to the gastrointestinal tract.

Rest, fluids and the use of Paracetamol/Tylenol may be helpful at this stage but if symptoms continue or worsen then he should be seen.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
