What Are Recurring Lumps On The Back Of The Neck Suggestive Of?

I have 2 hard lumps on the back of my neck, on the right and left side, at my hairline. They have been coming and going for the past few years. Some days they feel large about the size of a marble and somedays about the size of a pea. I get a stiff neck that last for a week or so sometimes as well. What can this be?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query.
This sounds to me like atheroma which are common on back and represent swelling of subcutaeous glands which are located near the hair follicele. It may grow in size or decrease oer the time but in case of persistancy, it can be surgically removed under local anasthesia.
I hope I have answered you query.
Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
