What Are The Adverse Effects Of Proair HFA Aerosol?

Hello, our 14 year old daughter has been diagnosed with asthma at the age of 4 and allergies to animal dander mostly. Since then she has used Pilmicort, Proair (both via canister and nebulizer) Singular, Q-Var and most recently FloVent in the am and pm. However, on a daily basis, she reaches for her Proair before P.E., after running, laughing, sometimes in am and sometimes before bed. Her pediatrician has recommended a pulmonary specialist for us to see in hope that she can get control and not have to use the Proair so often throughout the week. Naturally, the hope is that these years of administering Proair so often has not and will not cause any issues in the future as she grows. What say you?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Proair is having Albuterol. It is short acting beta 2 agonist (SABA). All inhalers are very safe in long term use. Inhaled drugs reach directly to the lungs without affecting any other organs. So no systemic side effects with inhaled treatment. So no need to worry for long term side effects of Proair or other inhalers.

Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your daughter. Thanks.
