What Are The Adverse Effects Of Steroids?

I have just been diagnosed with osteoporosis as a result of my inhaled steroids for asthma. What are the side effects of the once a year infusion drug treatment? The six month shot? and the daily(I think) pill? I was told that one of these can cause the jaw bone to die in rare cases. Is that true?

First you should know the side effect of steroids-
Moderate leucocytosis, eosinopoenia, polycythaemia, lymphopoenia, insomnia, headache, increased susceptibility and severity of infections, Na retention w/ oedema, increased K excretion, wt gain, increased appetite, reduced glucose tolerance, DM, hypertriglyceridaemia, hypercholesterolaemia, striae rubrae, telangiectasia, atrophy, petechiae, increased capillary fragility, ecchymoses, osteoporosis (dose-related), muscular atrophy and weakness, adrenal suppression, immunosuppression, Kaposi's sarcoma, acute myopathy, ocular effects (e.g. subcapsular cataracts, glaucoma, ocular infections), psychiatric disturbances (e.g. depression, euphoria, insomnia, mood swings, personality changes)
So you can take short tem but for long term it is not recommended.
And for your osteoporosis do a bone density test to know the risk of bone for next 10 years ,if risk is high take alendronate(fosamax) and balance your hormone level
Take teriparatide(forteo) injection
take calcium in diet at least 1200 mg,low fat dairy products, dark green vegetables, soy products, orange juice
expose your body to sunlight in the morning to get natural vitamin D
Do regular exercise daily
If any doubt comes let me know(Thanks)
