hi pranita,
Dental caries, also known as tooth decay or a cavity, is an infection, usually bacterial in origin, that causes demineralization of the hard tissues (enamel, dentin and cementum) and destruction of the organic matter of the tooth, usually by production of acid by hydrolysis of the food debris accumulated on the tooth surface .If demineralization exceeds saliva and other remineralization factors such as from calcium and fluoridated toothpastes, these tissues progressively break down, producing dental caries (cavities, holes in the teeth). The two bacteria most commonly responsible for dental cavities are Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus.kindly go through this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dental_caries

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query,
Tooth demineralization refers to a process where an acidic environment leaches some of the mineral content (such as calcium) out of a tooth's calcified tissues
The acids that cause the demineralization process are produced by specific types of bacteria (primarily lactobacilli and mutans streptococci) that live within dental plaque. The bacteria that cause cavities are living organisms.
The acid that's most instrumental in causing cavities (demineralization) is that which seeps through the plaque and on down to the tooth's surface.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful

Dental Caries is a multifactorial disease. Various factors responsible for the carious process are:
1. Tooth surface
i) Morphology
ii) Composition
iii) Position
2. Saliva
i) Composition
ii) Quantity
iii) pH
iv) Viscosity
3. Dental Plaque
4. Diet
i) Physical factors
ii) Local factors

The microenvironmental conditions in the habitats associated with the host health are generallly anaerobic, near neutrality in pH, and positive in oxidation -reduction potential. significant microenvironmental changes are associated with caries and periodontal disease. the changes are the result of the plaqe community metabolism.
microenironment of oral habitat associated with tooth decay-
enamel caries streptococcus mutans anaerobic, pH
dentin caries streptococcus mutans anaerobic pH
lactobacillus
root caries actinomyces anaerobic, pH

HI,

Thanks for asking the query,

Caries are destruction of tooth surface by bacteria that can affect both enamel (outer surface) and dentine . bacteria in the mouth digest food and release acids this acids clings to the tooth surface and cause cavities.

Various bacteria causing tooth decay are sterpto. mutants , strepto. sanguis , lactobacilli ,
actinomyceses viscosis , A. naeslundi, S. salivarius,other filamentous bacteria.

Caries formation is a irreversible process causing demineralisation and decalcification of the inorganic matter by bacteria in the mouth and destruction of the organic matter leading to cavitation .

upon meeting these factors, all together at a particular time can cause dental caries.numerous bacterias are involved in this process of dental caries.

in short improper oral hygiene is the main causative factor of caries.
hope it helps.

Hello,
I am Dr.Neha Gupta (dentist) and am glad to address to your query here.
You are infected with Streptococcus Mutans. S mutans is a bacteria that is common in the human oral cavity.
While brushing and flossing are effective at removing food particles following a meal and at scraping away some of the plaque, Streptococcus mutans is a bacteria – it will come back out of hiding after such oral hygiene and it will continue to thrive, producing it’s tooth-damaging effects.
These bacteria feeds on food we eat and start releasing the acid within few minutes specially with sugar rich food.
Take care and please keep me informed of your progress at healthcaremagic through my profile directly.

Hi,
The major bacteria for causing dental caries is streptococcus mutans, streptococcus viridans, lactobacilli, streptococcus salivarius, actinomyces. Dental caries is caused due to multiple factors like cariogenic bacteria, consumption of refined carbohydrates, poor oral hygiene, malaligned teeth.

Dental Decay is a multifactorial process which requires FOUR components according to the current concept of dental caries.

1. HOST. (that is dental hard tissues)
2. SUBSTRATE (sugary food, sucrose)
3. TIME
4. MICROBES

amongst Microbes, the important one are
streptococcus group...s. mutans, s. salivarius, s. mitior
lactobacillus group... l. acidophilus
actinomyces group... a. viscosus. a. naeslundii, a. israelli

Hi Welcome to HCM.

The tooth decay occurs due to a process called demineralization. And is caused by bacteria lactobacilli and mutans streptococci. These bacteria release a acidic compounds which causes tooth demineralization. These bacteria feeds on food we eat and start releasing the acid within few minutes specially with sugar rich food.
Take care.
