What Are The Chances Of HIV Infection After Oral Sex?

Hi, I am a 37 year old gay man from India. 4 weeks ago I hooked up with a 60 year old gay man from my city whose HIV status is unknown to me. We had lots of body play. He laid on top of me, kissed my lips, sucked my nipples and licked my chest, belly and pubic area. We did not have anal or oral sex. That s all he did to me. When he got off me, I saw his foreskin had lots of precum and that made me freak out. Now here is what it worries me. Ever since that day, I began to worry a lot about HIV infection. I have worst fears and nightmares....what if his precum had touched my pubic area where I have itchy rash....what if it might have gotten into my blood stream through small openings of rash....I tested negative at 13 days which gave me a bit of relief. But my fears and aniexty came back again as each day I went online and started reading about window periods. Now I am having difficult time and every morning my hear rate goes up as I think about the situation. I feel uneasiness in my stomach and have diarrohea when I think about this whole thing. Everyday I spent hours online trying to find convincing answers about my encounter but it seems my mind is simply not ready to accept that I may not be infected and it keeps playing tricks on me. I have lost interest in my day to day activities and all I could do is think about my hiv risk. I keep searching my body for symptoms like checking for enlarged lymph nodes under my ears, side of pelvis every day etc. and it makes me freak out everytime I see unusual thing. My question to you is was I exposed to hiv risk by my encounter? Do I need to wait till 3 months and go for a final test or shall I forget about this whole thing and continue with my life as I am having hard time passing each day waiting for 2 more months to get one more test? Has HIv transmission been reported till date by such an exposure? Please help. Thanks

Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic

I think you have nothing to worry about. Penetrative sex has the highest risk, which is not the case here. In your case there was just body rubbing, kissing and nipple sucking involved.
Saliva has anti HIV properties. Unless and until there are sores in the oral mucosa of the person giving oral sex, the risk is almost negligible. Moreover, the intact skin of nipples unlike a mucosal surface is very hardy for the HIV virus to get into your blood stream.
Regarding the possibility of HIV entering into your blood stream through the rash or minor scratches, I must tell you for HIV to enter the blood stream it should be a fresh wound (actively bleeding); a paper cut scratch won't allow HIV to enter blood stream.

I think you are safe and you have nothing to worry about this particular exposure. Your symptoms are most likely due to an unrelated illness/cause.

However, if you still want to test for your own peace of mind you may take an HIV Combo test now. This test has a high sensitivity for detection of HIV infection (99.8% after just 1 month of sexual incident).

Regards
