What Are The Chances Of Avoiding Miscarriage By Taking Utrogeston And Duphaston ?

Hi, I saw my gynae earlier. im supposed to be 7wks according to my last menstral period however, the Sac is growing only at 6wks+ but the fetus is measuring only at 0.15cm. Heartbeat cannot be detected at this point. And i have been spotting for the past 3 days. doc prescribe utrogeston (twice a day) & duphaston (once a day). As i had a miscarriage in May (6mths ago), i would like to know what are the chances of saving this pregnancy from taking these medication?

Hello,
To be frank, use of progesterone may or may not help a pregnancy and this depends on whether there is a real hormone deficiency that could possibly cause an abortion, when supplements are really useful; on the other hand, unnecessary use of hormone supplements has also been shown to induce an abortion. So, it is the judgement of your doctor at this stage that decides the further management. A repeat sonogram coupled with serial serum beta-hCG titres are often helpful to monitor the progress of the pregnancy. Hope this helps.
