What Are The Chances Of Our Baby Catching Abnormalities At This Time?

Hello doctor, I am recently married, my in-laws and parents are insisting us to plan for kids. My question is: My father-in-law is dumb right from birth, my husband , brother-n-law and sis-in-law are absolutely fine without any kind of abnormalities. if we plan for kinds, what are the chances of them to get grandpa s genes. will they be normal ? will they have chance of any abnormalities ..? pls advice doctor. from Vaishnavi

Hello vaishnavi,I understand your concern.
In my opinion the dumbness can be due to two:-
1.congenital deafness will automatically cause dumbness
2.hearing capacity is good but not able to speak due to some structural problem in
vocal card or tongue muscles.

So in either case it is not a inheritable disease.so relax and do not worry .
