What Are The Chances Of Ovarian Cyst Rupture During Pregnancy?
Hi, I m 27 years old and a little more than four months pregnant with my second child. I m due in July. I have a history of having ovarian cysts (on both ovaries) after my first miscarriage and D&C in January of 2011. In June of 2014, a cyst on my right ovary ruptured. I passed out and if it wasn t for my boyfriend, I probably would ve died, as he prevented me from a serious head injury. I got pregnant a few months after but was very worried about how my remaining cysts might affect my soon-approaching labor. I had my son, who s almost seven, with no problems. Should I be worried about my cysts rupturing during labor or should I opt for a Cesarean section?
Hello and welcome to HCM, The ovarian cysts should be followed by up with regular ultrasounds. The probability of an ovarian cyst to rupture depends on its size and pressure of contents within the cyst. Labor can be a precipitating factor for rupture of cysts, however, there is no relation between labor and cyst rupture. I suggest you to visit your obstetrician regularly for assessment of the cysts and there is no potential risk for rupture of the cysts.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
