What Are The Complications Accidentally Getting Pricked By A Used Liraglutide Needle?

Today morning after giving my mom her liraglutide shot I accidently pricked my finger with the same needle. She s been using the same for last four days. While capping it, the needle bent and pricked me very bad. I m so nervous about it cause she has quite a lot of health issues like arthritis and type 2 diabetes plus I m a thyroid patient. I just don t want anything else to add on. And I m 20 years old. Thank you.

Hello,

Nothing much to worry and no treatment is required. You have to make sure that your mother doesn’t have any blood borne disease like hepatitis-B or HIV. In that case post exposure prophylaxis may be needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Wishing you all the best.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
