What Are The Complications Of Having Unsafe Sex During D&C Procedure?

I had a D&C about a week ago. My husband and I got anxious and had sex yesterday. (at 7days). I m no longer bleeding but I do remember being told not to have sex or insert anything up to 2 weeks. Will the doctor know if I had sex when I go for the follow up appointment? Will I get an infection? Is it possible I could get pregnant before receiving the first period since I had unprotected sex, too?

Hello,

The doctor’s advice not to have sex after such procedures to avoid further complications like infection, bleeding.

If you have a follow-up visit then mention it to your doctor.

As long as there is no bleeding currently you don’t have to worry.

Regarding the pregnancy, it depends on the day of your menstrual cycle. Without taking a urine pregnancy test it’s difficult to say anything.

So you can talk about that with your doctor, she will be able to guide you better with all appropriate history.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Manisha Auradkar, General & Family Physician
