What Are The Effects Of Taking Zentel During Pregnancy?
I am currently 28 weeks pregnant. During my 12th week, due to some miscommunication, I started taking zentel every night. This went on till mid March(I must have taken 15-20 tablets). Then I stopped. Should I be concerned as this is a class c drug? Please advice. As of now, all the ultrasounds and the growth of the foetus is normal.
Albendazole is an anthelmintic (an-thel-MIN-tik) or anti-worm medication. It prevents newly hatched insect larvae (worms) from growing or multiplying in your body.
As you have information that FDA has classified it as pregnancy category C: It means either studies in animals have revealed adverse effects on the foetus (teratogenic or embryocidal or other) and there are no controlled studies in women or studies in women and animals are not available. Drugs should be given only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the foetus.
As you can see it can be given only when benefits outweigh the risks, and definitely it should be not be taken more than one.
Good news is in your case it has not affected your baby as suggested by your ultrasound report. I advice you to be very regular to your doctor and hope for the best. Eat nutritious diet and taje adequate rest. Dont take any medications with out your doctor knowledge.
