What Are The Harmful Effects Of Accidental Temporary Electrocution?

On Sunday, Sep. 17, 2017, my son, who is age 20, suffered an electrocution at work with a 4-prong plug. He says he did not know how it happened. On Monday, his job sent him to their doctors and told him, everything is fine with you. My concern is WHICH SYMPTOMS CAN OCCUR NOW AND LATER, THAT I SHOULD BE AWARE OF (or he to be aware of). Also, I urgently expressed to him that he should go see his own personal doctor for diagnosis and/or treatment if needed.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If he had a medical check up and it is declared that everything is fine then you need not worry. However, sometimes weeks or months after the incident symptoms like agitation, depression, insomnia or fatigue, & phobia may occur. You can get him do some investigations like ECG/EKG (to check heart), CBC, urinalysis for muscle enzymes (to screen out any muscle injury), CT (long term complication can be damage to the internal organs) and neurological tests to screen out any nerve damage (check neurological system as long term complications can occur).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,

Dr. Nupur K.
