What Are The Medications That Don T Need Monitoring Prescribed For Atrial Fibrillation?
FEBRUARY 25, 2014 - TO DR. XXXXXXX - I HAVE HAD ATRIAL FIBRILLATION (DRS. HAVE REFERRED TO IT AS "AS EXTRA BEAT" FOR MANY, MANY YEARS. I AM CURRENTLY TAKING DILTIAZEM AND METOPROLOL.
I AM DIABETIC (ii). THE DR. HAS SUGGESTED I CONSIDER COUMADIN, BUT I AM AFRAID OF IT, PRIMARILY BECAUSE OF THE BLEEDING PROBLEM. WE ALSO TRAVEL (CRUISE) A LOT, AND I AM CONCERNED ABOUT REGULAR VISITS FOR "MONITORING." THE DR. ALSO SAYS THERE ARE 3 MEDICATIONS THAT DON'T NEED MONITORING, BUT THEY ARE VERY EXPENSIVE. Currently there are medications for anticoagulation for AF which don't need INR control and are safer as have less bleeding complications.
They are; rivaroxaban, apixaban and dabigatran.
