You have got Peripherial Arterial desease due to accumulation of Plaque(a fatty substance)inside the artery. Firstly it needs to determine the severity of blood flow impairement. It got to be done with compareing blood pressure in ankle and arm which is called Ankle Brachial index(ABI) (2) Imaging tests-- Angiography where dye is introduced inside the artery and X-rayed to see the conditions of artery inside, (3)Magnetic Imaging Scan (MRI Scan)to locate the extent of arterial obstruction.
Treatment: (1)Change of life style eg Stop Smoking, Exercise, to take care of any related conditions if present with advise of Doctor eg Diabetes, hypertention.
Angioplasty and Stenting:A catheter with a deflated baloon tip introduced through an artery in the groin and guided to the narrow segment of the artery and there ballon inflated compressing the the plaque and widining the artery. Stenting: It is a small mesh support tube. The stunt is collapsed when placed in the tip of the cathetre. When the cathetre reaches the blockade the stent is extended by inflating baloon and left there parmanently and through blood can flow. Athectomy: Here a specially equibbed catheter removes Plaque. It is done in conjunction with Angioplasty. The devise is activated which are equibbed with rotatingblades/bur. Rotating blades shave plaques off and burrs grind hard plaques from arterial wall. The removed plaques are then sucked in to the cathetre to remove from the body. Laser: Laser angoplasty is performed with catheter tip fixed with laser which vapourises plaques. Leg bi pass: This procedure is done in severe cases, where a new blood vessel is reconstruted in the leg to provide better blood flow.
