What Are The Possible Reasons For Drop In Pulse Rate?

My 85 year old dad has several conditions including high blood pressure, diabetes, CKD, early stage and is on many different medications, including gabapentin/neurotin for headaches which are now under control and donepezil for early stage alzheimers. There was a bit of a struggle earlier this year to get him on a blood pressure med that would control his bp as well as his edema. His bp has been good for a few months now. However, during his most recent visit his cardiologist found his pulse to be low and is going to put him on a 24 hour holter monitor and said he may need a pacemaker. Wondering if maybe he should take another look at the meds that he is on. Our family, including dad, would like to avoid unnecessary surgery.

HI
Well come to HCM
I really appreciate your concern, it seems patient must be having multiple disease and these could be highly related with age, now it is all depends upon the clinical condition whether to have pacemaker or not if it can be managed with medicine then no need to go for this and for that better to have word with doctor, hope this helps, take care and have a nice day.
