HI, my periods are always on time. But this time its 10 days late. I had been to extreme cold temperature (ive heard weather fluctuation delays period), had cold, sore throat for which took medicines( cough syrups 2 bottles for a period of 2 weeks) and tonsillitis. Could these be causative factors for delaying my periods. Also, i did a pregnancy test which resulted negative. I am currently undergoing brazilian laser hair removal treatment, could that be a factor? Thanks
Delay in periods can occur due to many causes. Yes, sometimes physiological factors, recent disturbances in General health, etc. can also affect the menstrual cycles by leading to reproductive hormonal fluctuations. According to the literature general antibiotics or anti-tussives may not affect the menstrual cycles. But the illness for which they have taken can affect the menstrual cycles. Also laser hair removal may not be responsible for your delayed periods.
If you want to be sure, please go for a blood test for pregnancy. If the serum beta HCG levels in the blood test at less than 5 mIU/mL, it rules out the possibility of pregnancy, then you can wait for one more week and possibly by the time you may get your periods.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
