I am 6 weeks post op and yesterday began feeling a stabbing pain near one of my incisions. I had sex for the first time the night before. I am also still extremely swollen. when will this swelling go away, and is there anything I can do to help the swelling to go away?

Hello ma'am and welcome.

Your query is a little unclear due to no information on the type of surgery and exact location of the surgical site. But it is common to experience such pain a while after surgery. A wound depending on the type and location takes time to recover and so I would not advise against sexual intercourse, but would although request you to report to your doctor just to make sure the wound has not opened or been infected. If the wound is on its path to recovery, then sexual intercourse can be tried although with caution and with less aggression as would normally be used.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
