What Are The Repercussions Of Inhaling Large Amount Of Body Deodorant?

I inhaled a large spray of body deodorant 3 days ago by accident. That night I started coughing real bad and was short of breath. after coughing and getting difficult to breathe, my heart is also beating fast. When I stop coughing, it eases down. I also have AFib. my doctor prescribed Presidone . I have only taken it for 2 days so far. But the cough is continuos. Should I give it more time to work. Should I get a breathing treatment?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You are suggested to visit ER, without delay. Inhalants can cause sudden cardiac arrest. You need to be in observation so that you can get medical attention at the right time.

You may need breathing support, gastric lavage, intravenous fluids and symptomatic treatment.

Treating inhalant abuse is difficult & may cause withdrawal symptoms lasting for weeks. Have patience.

Inhalants may cause brain damage, memory loss, impaired co-ordination & concentration.

Chronic use may cause permanent liver, kidney, lungs and heart damage. Stay away from such additions.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
