General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.

Deriphyllin Tablet (Etophylline and Theophylline) is a bronchodilator (opens the narrow airways) and thus helpful in the treatment of bronchial asthma, allergic bronchitis, etc.

It may cause increase heart beats, arrhythmia, palpitation, fall in BP, restlessness, tremors, insomnia, anxiety, diarrhea, and convulsions.

Because of these side effects it is less commonly used now a days.
Other bronchodilators like Salbutamol or Ipratropium (in the form of inhalers) are the most effective drugs used to treat bronchospasm associated with those conditions with less side effects.

Hope this answers your query.
