What Are The Side Effects Of Adderall Withdrawal?

we have recently become foster parents to an 18 year old boy who started taking Adderall 2 months ago for ADHD. I will find out the prescription amount but we are concerned about anorexia as he has lost weight over this same time frame and we would like him to be drug-free if at all possible. We are scheduling a meeting with his doctor within the next 2 weeks - in the interim, what are your recommendations/what should we be aware of for side affects to discontinue Adderall?

Hello,

Adderall doses should not be stopped all at once but tapered.

When the doses are reduced slowly the patient will experience symptoms like lack of energy, hopelessness, headache, guilt, regret, problems in thinking, focusing, unpleasant dreams, loss of pleasure, depression or may even start having suicidal tendencies, Adderall cravings.

These symptoms may last for weeks to months depending upon the previous Adderall intake. You should get connected to a GP & also a detox center.

As the patient starts withdrawing from the drug, symptomatic treatment is done in parallel.

Medications like antidepressants, pain relievers, anti-anxiety, sedatives are helpfully provided they are taken not more than the prescribed doses.

If symptoms get severe it may be difficult to manage at home. At such a time you may need a detox center which monitors & takes care of the patient all the time.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
