General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Norethisterone is a synthetic form of progestin. It is used for birth control and also to treat menstrual disorders and abnormal vaginal bleeding in women caused due to hormonal imbalances.

Some of the side effects for Norethisterone include: Irregular menstrual periods, enlargement of breasts, stomach discomfort and abdominal pain, Weight loss or weight gain, disturbances in sleep, facial hair growth, migraine like headaches, dizziness and fainting, depressed mood and Allergic skin reaction.

However, many a times, few of such symptoms are seen at the beginning of intake of medication and gradually subside on its own. Contact your doctor immediately if any of these symptoms are experienced on a regular basis and become bothersome.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S,
