What Are The Side Effects Of Prednisone?

I have been prescribed prednisone 20 mg two tablets at one time every day for 5 days and I m concerned about the side affects it may have. After I take this for 5 days they prescribed the 10 mg two tablets for 5 days. Ten days ago I took the Prednisolone 7 day pack for an uncontrollable itch that I have on my face. Should I be concerned with the dosage?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
I understand your concern
Following are the side effects of the prednisone:
Weight gain, nausea, sweating, thinning of skin/stria development, joint pain, confusion, mood changes, increase frequency of urine.
Long term use of prednisone cause high chance of the side effects.
But these side effects not occur in all individuals and variables.
But in short term use chance of side effects is less.
It should be tapered with decreasing dose so doctor gave you 10 mg tablet.
High chance of the side effects when used for 6-8 week.
So take prednisone under the advice of your doctor
Hope this may help you
