What Are The Side Effects Of Seroflo-50?

Doctor Santosh, I want to know the side effects of Seroflo-50 if it is being used for longer period. Case: My son (now 7 years old) has a frequent problem of cold. fever and soar throat since 2010. Initially we thought he might have common cold. Doctors also diagnosed the same and gave him antibiotics. Till August 2014, he was given only antibiotics by doctor and his problem persists. Also in this period he was admitted to hospital 2 times for 3 day each time (as per doctor he was suffering from bronchitis). In August 2014, we consulted other doctors (including AIIMS) and showed all the previous reports. We were astonished to identify that the doctors diagnosed him with Asthma and prescribed few medicine (no antibiotics) along with Seroflo-50. Seroflo-50 is being given to him twice daily now and we see noticeable change in his persistant problem of cold. Please guide is it OK to use it for longer duration, some people keep telling me that the longer usage of steroids leads to fattening of body, is it true. Hi,

Seroflocontains salmetrol which is a bronchodilator and a steroid fluticasone. It is essential to reduce the bronchial inflammation and narrowing. Muscle cramp, headache, bone and joint pain, increased throat infections and weight gain can occur with the drug.

Inhaled steroids can cause throat infections and hoarseness of voice. Hence frequent mouth gargling after the medicine is essential to reduce the side effects. Mild physical activity and healthy food is essential to maintain weight.
