What Are The Side Effects Of Tramadol 50 Mg On Liver?

I have recently gone through treatment for Hep C . My doctor says it was a cure and the treatment was a success. That being said I have been dealing with a bad foot for 5 years since I almost tore it off and I need to have ankle fusion done. I also have had low back problems for years off and on but has started to be a constant problem and my back doctor prescribed me tramadol 50 hcl for my back .This seems to really help at 2 pills per day so will this hurt my liver.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you are given tramadol for pain and your are wondering about is effects on liver . Well as such it is not known to cause any damage to liver although it s also metabolize through liver and known to increase serum aminotransferase , but not in a dangerous level . But is is known to cause acute liver failure when taken overdose , which can be even fatal sometimes . In case of overdose it can also do respiratory failure , but as far as normal recommended dose is concern it is not harmful . If your are countering any problem after you start taking tramadol then consult your doctor and discuss the situation with him or her .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Hi..Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

No this dosage of tramadol cannot be harmful to liver. Overdosage can be very harmful, it can cause acute liver failure. You can take tramadol 50 mg twice day for a week or so. It will not cause any much problem.
Taking tramadol in high should be avoided in you as you were suffering from Hepatitis C. It can cause elevation of liver enzyme, anorexia, jaundice type symptoms.
If you are prescribed taking tramadol for long time, monitoring of levels of liver enzyme should be done.

Hope this information helps
