What Are The Side Effects Of Unisom?

Hello, I would like to hear what you suggest are the dangers of taking unisom? I m a middle school principal, we have students bringing this over the counter drug to school and passing them out to other students. What do you suggest we tell our students of this drug when taken, without parental or doctor awareness.

Hi,

Unisom is an anti-histamine commonly used to treat sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, hives, skin rash, itching, and allergy symptoms. It is also used as a short-term treatment for sleep problems (insomnia).

The students should be told about its side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, impaired concentration which may affect their learning process in the school. It may also cause dry mouth, blurring of the vision, increased heartbeats, constipation and urinary problems. The parents should be informed about this activity and the local health administration to issue the guidelines to the pharmacy involved in dispensing unisom to your students without prescriptions.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
