What Are The Side Effects Of Prolonged Intake Of BC Pills?

Hi. I m 20 years old and have been taking birth control since I was 12. I stopped taking the pill in December of 2015. Its now July of 2016 and I ve only had one period since then. Why haven t my periods come back? Could something be wrong? Should I be scared that I could not be able to get pregnant now? Please help. Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I would advise you to see your doctor and have some tests. You may need a vaginal examination and transvaginal ultrasound to evaluate your womb and ovaries and also some blood tests such as FSH, LH, testosterone, TSH, FT4, estrogen, progesterone, prolactin, etc.

According to the test results, the doctor will be able to determine the cause of your amenorrhea (lack of periods) and will decide on further management.

I hope this is helpful.
I remain at your disposal for further medical assistance.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj
