Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
dear doctor, I am 64 years of age. I have had crohn s disease for nine years and coeliac disease for 30 years. I have also experienced oral crohn s disease which has been difficult to treat - this includes mouth ulcers and a swollen and painful jaw. I have had several courses of glucocorticol steroids over the years. I am currently being treated with Infliximab. I also have osteoporosis and recently suffered a spontaneous fracture of one of my vertebrae despite being on fosamax for nine years. It has been recommended by an endocrinologist that I have an infusion of aclasta. Reading the side effects of this medication has made me very nervous about this treatment particularly the osteonecrosis of the jaw. What are your thoughts? thank you, dawn email is YYYY@YYYY

What Are The Side Effects Of Taking Infliximab?
Hello, Osteonecrosis of jaw is a non side effect of Bisphosphonate, but it is seen only with long term treatment of Bisphosphonates. Moreover osteonecrosis is seen when bisphonates are taken for malignancy(cancers) like leukaemia. In your case the odds for developing osteonecrosis is rare and you can safely take bisphosphonates. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care Regards, Dr. Shinas Hussain
