Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son has been on Vyvanse 20mg for 2 yrs. the side effects were getting worst. So my husband and I stopped giving it to him a week ago. He had the worst week at school and we are meeting with his doctor in am. We really didn t want him on meds. Should we keep him off the meds? Are there any alternatives you recommend? Is there anything specific we should be asking the doctor tomorrow?
Adderall is an alternative, which contains amphetamine salts (amphetamine and dextroamphetamine).
Ritalin, which is composed of 'Methylphenidate'is another alternative.
Stopping Vyvanse at once can result in the appearance of withdrawal symptoms. Gradual tapering of the medication is recommended to minimise withdrawal symptoms.
Kindly consult your doctor and explain why you wish to stop this medication and ask for alternative medications as well as other supportive treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Ashakiran S, General & Family Physician
