What Are The Signs And Symptoms Of Neuropathy In A Diabetic?

Hi my moms dear friend and grandmother of the daughter who married my mom s grandson is 85 years old. Until this year she was able to clean her home, garden and attend church. She is a tall woman but has not had problems with bone density or Diabetes. This past winter her back is in so much pain she is starting to give up on family activities such as her Great Grandsons birthday. She has a pack maker and a valve problem which she takes Coumadin for. Now she is describing neuropathy symptoms. She see s an elderly doctor who knows her best along with a cardiologist. I am just not sure where to go or what to do about the spidery sensations up and down her legs.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* There can be various reasons for signs and symptoms of neuropathy in the diabetic patient as

- vitamin B 12 deficiency

- compromised blood supply of the peripheral nerves via micro thrombosis of small size blood vessels ( will give Gloves and Stocking pattern neuropathy )

- nutrient deficiency as zinc and others

- uncontrolled blood sugar

- proximal nerve compression giving distal symptoms

I would like to address further with all available reports of her to guide ahead.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
