Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I believe I may be about to have Shingles. I have had the vaccine, but I went to ER with some burning and irritation on one side of my face., ear, and pain inn my lower back. No rash yet, but I want to avert the full blown shingles. Is there an antiviral that I can take? The ER Doctor asked me if I ve ever had Shingles, but did not prescribe anything.
Hi you can not be treated for shingles without the lesions being visible. Two main symptoms characterise shingle: pain and a band of rashes on a particular side of the skin without crossing to the other. It is true rashes might appear 2 to 3 days after pain but the diagnosis of shingles will not be based on pain alone. I will only be convinced it is shingles when the rashes appear only on one side of your body and not cross to the other side.I will advise you get pain medications like Ibuprofen if the pain is too intense and observe.Shingle is not life threatening too, so do not be scared.Just trust your Doctor. If rashes start appearing, you go back to your Doctor for antiviral drug and cream Best regards
