What Are The Symptoms And Treatment For Conjunctivitis?

I woke up yesterday with what I assumed was pink eye. My eye was red, lips swollen almost shut and it was itchy and ha discharge. I went to the pharmacy and got over the counter polysporin eyedrops for it. I went to sleep after a half day of using them. When I woke up in the early morning, lots of liquid had gathered in my eye and when I opened it it was like water was spilling out of my eye, and it smells bad. Is this normal for pink eye or is this a more serious infection?

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hi.. thanks for writing to HCM..
It could be a viral conjuntivitis where there is mild discharge more watery and irritation..
How is your vision..Generally conjunctivitis, how severe it is doesn't effect vision..
If your vision is normal you don't have to worry.. But take care so that it will not aggravate..
You can use antibiotic and artificial tear drops for relief and do consult an ophthalmologist if the problem persists or aggravates..
Take care..
